Michelle is back at the Studio for 2019 and this time round we are making some light shades.
For those of you who don’t know Michelle here she describes herself.
Michelle describes herself as a textile artist who uses the sewing machine, colour and texture to tell a story using free motion machine embroidery techniques to fill the soul with colour. She considers that it is the everyday that holds the beauty and inspiration, watching the seasons change, listening and laughing with friends and family and the roar of the ocean. She likes to convey colour and movement to how she respond emotionally. Her textile artwork is not accurate or a literal depiction but rather she sees darting dragonflies, spring gardens, butterfly kisses, and the sound of the ocean as she moves around what she is making.
When she is creating she loves to use hand dyed fibres and silks, found objects and collected treasures. She layers, tears, folds, stitches and paints to allow her sewing machine to dance across the surface and pull all the elements together.
As a teacher her goal is to inspire her students and create passion when using colour and texture while introducing her students to new materials and techniques. http://chelletextiles.com.au/
In this workshop we will be making a light shade. How different is that!
This two day workshop at Threads and Tangles will be exploring stitching and working with silk hankies which are hand dyed silk fibres, the students will be free motion machine embroidering the silk fibre cutting back through the layers and adding lace work stitching and interesting yarns and chords . when the stitching is finished the silk fibres will be shaped around a glass cylinder to create a decorative twinkling light decor.
This class will be fun and open up many possibilities.
